Why we should ride!

ALLEZ ALLEZ....Ok, so maybe all the hype of TdF (Le Tour de France) has got me in the mood to take my shoes down from the last place that I hung them up...Well, along with flu, work and excuses NOT to ride, I am making a slow progressive comeback.

Although TdF fever is in the air, that is it's not why I am staging my comeback. Psychologically not being able to ride because of being sick is the real reason I want to....NO, HAVE to ride. I sat at home thinking about riding and knowing that if I did try ride today my heart rate will spike and basically never come back down until I got out the shower and was horizontal for the next hour... maybe two....
I am better now so last week I started the early morning rides (04:15Cry) from Westville Mall and nearly fell over before 45th cutting riding out to Margaret Maytom to do hill training! I still managed to make it home though and got back there on Thursday to do the regular circuit training AKA World Cup circuits. Feeling terribly fat and unfit I only managed 3 circuits before heading back to Wild Bean Cafe (oh yeah, that's another reason why I ride....the coffee) for a mega capuccino!!!!Smile The rest of the guys did 6 laps, raced home and got back about 3 minutes after I did and I had to buy coffee!! Go figure!!

Another reason for staging my comeback is because I logged onto Roag (http://www.roag.co.za) and checked out my current seeding index (1.46295389). This is an average ranking based on races you have done and against the fastest riders (Burry Stander http://www.burrystander.typepad.com/). I then went on to check the top 500 riders based on ranking.....I amNOT in the top500!!! So, I need to get my ranking up and the only way I can do that is by getting better results right? WRONG, there is another way...I canpay Brett Austen Smith to just give me a better ranking, afterall it is only a number.....ok really.....

So starting from tomorrow.... I will start riding again.....REMEMBER though, Mondays are rest days!!!

I will keep updates on my progress, my coffee drinking, my ranking, my competitors and my goals.

My next goal is to get a better ranking of 1.343852555 which will get me in the top 500 riders that are ranked on Roag.

If I start riding again, in no order of priority I can drink more coffee, I can drink more coffee, I can drink more coffee, I get a better ranking and get fitter.

You can track my progress here on Bolton's Bicycle Blog or follow me on twitter http://twitter.com/brettbolton1

Next time....a list of my competitors, The Ice Cream League and my "training tips"
