2010 Back on the Bike

E-mail Print PDF
Holla TrailingFor those that took a break from riding over the festive season, it's time to get back on track. KZN has so much to offer the cyclist.
Early morning sunshine. Fresh air. Road and tracks everywhere.

Let's make the most of 2010, on the road, or in the dirt!

Experience the awesome tracks at Giba Gorge and Holla Trails... both of which offer a great day out for the family... or simply some hard riding. Roadies should get into the organised group rides from CycleLab Durban North or Hillcrest that cater for all levels... but most importantly... offering support vehicles and marshals for safe riding.

How ever you ride... it's time to start pumping those quads.

Good development of youngsters

Note from Bill Fereday, KZN Cycling Development Officer and CycleLab Development Officer...

"I thought this picture taken at the track on Friday evening may come in handy if we want to show we are helping out with development. This bunch turned up at the track (organised by Bianca) a month ago. Not one of them had ridden a bike before, I spent the evenings running around holding onto them until they could ride themselves. They’ve done really well and are now competing at a beginner level.. To manage to learn to ride a bike for the first time on a bike with no brakes or gears and fixed wheel takes some doing (and quite a bit of courage , these guys deserve a pat on the back"

Dusi Valley MTB ride

E-mail Print PDF

For the past two weekends, on Saturday morning  , a couple of mates got together to go and explore the Dusi/ Inanda Valley on our Mountain bikes, We spent both days riding through the valley exploring what has to be some of the best riding in KZN , this kind of riding is really good preparation for the Subaru Sani 2 c , and for The Absa Cape Epic.

This ride is not for the faint hearted and you should always come prepared , you must have enough Juice for 6 hrs of riding , and enough food to sustain you for 6 hrs , Its Very Hot , and lots of climbing , each ride was on average 110km with approximately 2600 meters of climbing , if you are preparing for either of these two events then i highly recommend that you go this Saturday , the meeting place is Hillcrest Mugg & Bean , parking lot , group leaves at 5am SHARP.

The ride is taken by someone who knows where they are going and MUST always be done in large groups , more than 10 riders , you must NOT go and ride in this valley on your own.

For one of the best rides in KZN go and check it out , come Sani / Epic time you will be very happy you spent some time climbing through this area.
