Midvaal Vets Tour

Sean Marsh, Mike ”Brontolo” Andrews, Dan Owens, Bryan”Buggalugs” Gale and the enigmatic Wally Bodin travelled up to the 2010 Midvaal Vets Tour at the Boswell Wilkie Circus Farm, Daleside on the 7, 8 and 9 August.

A 4 Stage Race over 3 days. An 8km Time Trial on Saturday followed by a 70km road stage the same afternoon. Sunday would be the Queen stage – a 130km undulating stage with a LOT of crosswinds and finally on Monday – a criterium of 60mins plus one lap

Compendium CycleLab MTB Derby - Track Review

E-mail Print PDF
I had the privilege of trial riding the 20km track cut for next weekend's Compendium CycleLab MTB Derby. WOW, what fun. The first 8km are SUPER FAST, even the first long climb is an easy gradient, and after that, only 3 short 50m hills. For people like Rowan Jones and myself, who haven't been on the bike for a while, it was such a good "comeback" ride.

For the "Pro's" doing the 40km race, the first 30km are going to be a fast and furious. The first 20km are the same route as the 20km riders, then 10km down into Giba. The climb out will be the main test of stamina, other than that, it will be the fastest pace of the season.

The testing team on the 20km routeIt's going to be a great event for the whole family. To already have 600 pre-entries shows that MTBers are loving their weekend races, specially when they are close to home. And if you haven't been on the bike for a while like me, then the 20km is perfect for you.

The event will also make a substantial contribution to the Jes Foord Foundation on the day on behalf of the sponsors & riders

Get geared up...

Joburg2C Riders... Congrats

Brad Lauren & DeanA huge well done to all the CycleLab SuperCycling KZN Club members who braved the 9 days & 930 off km of terrain from Heidelberg to Scottborough. Myles Tyler & Steve McMaster came in 17th overall (11th in their category). Dean Black & Brad Rolfe had an incredible journey, and came 61st (18th in the category).

Considering that Brad (pictured right with Lauren Drummond, their Physio, and Dean Black) only started MTBing seriously about 6 months ago... this was a huge achievement, and inspiration to any MTBer thinking of doing an Epic or Sani. Well done!

DrakensbergOther riders to mention... David Simpson & Yusuf Kadwa: Over 58h30 of riding! Ow.
Andrew McLean & Shan Wilson: 38h22 (winners of the race). Nice.
The Cycle Lab KTM team... Johan Labuschagne & Yolande de Villiers came in 4th (1st in their category)
And Cyclelab 3; Mark Thijs & Graeme Eliott came 28th (7th in their category).

Amashova... After the War!

E-mail Print PDF
During the 1st World War, British and German soldiers laid down their weapons to exchange food & cigarettes, and play a game of football. After the "Christmas Truce", they picked up their weapons and went back to their trenches to prepare for fighting again. The cessation of violence was entirely unofficial. The troops acted spontaneously from goodwill!

Similarly, this year, CycleLab SuperCycling Club and Mr Price Cycle Club, the two largest and most competitive clubs in KZN, are planning on bringing the clubs together for an Amashova After Party.
