The Jonsson Dusi Mfula MTB race was held this weekend. Well done to all the CycleLab riders who flew the flag!
Team Full Imput (Rowan Exelby & David Leiman) won the event, with the Numzane Team (Carl Calverley & David Low) and Team Subaru (Craig Stone & Nick Floros) taking 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The results are up on the website www.dusimfula.co.za
Race review...
The plan was that the four of us (in picture) were going to ride together, however at the top of the first climb it was evident that that was not going to happen?
The route was fantastic, the track was a bit dusty in places, but in general it was really well marked and well marshalled. The first 10 km was hard on some very bumpy tufted grass areas, but then we headed into the valley and soon got into the good stuff.
The river crossings were cold and slippery and my partner kept lying around and splashing around in the shallows, we also discovered a new source of spirolena!
Then the last 30 km came and despite me suffering from bad ITB and my partner having torn his calf muscle we crossed the line in 4:30 hrs
Overall it was again very special day in the valley, this is some of the best mountain biking in the world, however if you are ever planning on going in on your own please make sure you go with someone who knows where they are going and go in a crowd.
