Cameron Wright had a great weekend again... taking a 2nd place podium at the SA Nationals XC Cup. Cameron has been focussing on winning both the KZN and National MTB XC Cup series, and his results are impressive....

SA NATIONALS XC Cup No.3 - GEORGE - 15 May 2010
Nippers
2nd Overall - Cameron Wright

MTB KZN XC Cup Finals - 4 May 2010
Nippers
1st - Cameron Wright

SA Road Champs - Klerksdorp - 19 Feb 2010
Boys Under 10
Silver – Cameron Wright

This was Cameron's first time competing in this event having only raced 2009 & 2010 KZN Road champs and thus did not know what to expect. His rival from Jhb in the Mtb XC series was there and all he wanted to do is beat him. The
start was fast and furious with the u/10 boys starting with the u/12 girls. Cameron and 2 other boys got a great start to split the bunch together with 2 u/12 girls. Cameron tried to break twice on the way out to the 10km turn point to test his competition but to be chased down by the Alexander Smith from Piet Retief Wheelers. At the turn point Alexander managed to accelerate behind the top u/12 girl and draft her back home leaving Cameron to time trial home by himself and finish 19 seconds behind in 2nd place. A great effort considering that Road racing is not his speciality - he prefers the mountain bike racing at the moment.

KZN Road Champs - 7 February 2010
Under 10
1st - Cameron Wright (finished 2nd overall out of the U14 girls & U12 boys & girls)

SA Nationals MTB XC - Reitvlei Zoo, Alberton - 6 Feb 2010
1st - Cameron Wright

This was the first leg on the series and Cameron was determined to win this won due to his 4th placing at the KZN XC Cup race at Stainbank nature reserve  2 weeks prior  due to a mechanical problem. The u/10 (nippers) started behind the u/12 (sprogs) to do 3 laps of 4.2km's. After lap 1 Cameron came through lying 2nd in u/10 to pass Mathew Dinham (current SA champ) on the start/finish line going into his 2nd lap. Coming through into his 3rd lap he had gained some 20seconds on his rival Mathew Dinham and lying behind the 1st and 2nd paced u/12 to finish ahead of them after his 3rd lap and some 15 seconds ahead of his rival Mathew Dinham.
